I was born in a family of Italian antique dealers from generations. There were and still are religious icons all over the house. They were always very dark and very dramatic. I just thought, becoming an adult, that I could do funny versions of those divas and give them just a holiday. This painting doesn't pretend at all to be religious but in Italy we say, "the habit doesn't make the monk." Also, in this case, the clothing doesn't make the Madonna but the tenderness of her eyes and the message of her crown just makes us stop and smile at her and reflect on the symbolism of her. xx, KUKY
